Press Release!
Aisha Academy is now partnered with Turning Point to provide services to the TAY population!
Turning Point Alcohol & Drug Education Program, Inc.
TURNING POINT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, California. Our center’s mission is to ensure that vulnerable populations in the city and county of Los Angeles—particularly low-income adults (18 and older), adolescents (12 – 17 years old), and individuals with developmental disabilities (12 and older)—reduce problems related to alcohol and/or other drug abuse problems.
TURNING POINT, a residential program, dedicated to providing a substance-free, smoke-free environment that assist and prepare participants in--
re-establishing and developing functional life and family skills, self-awareness, community relationships, and sufficient job preparation--without the use of addictive substances.
Given the demographics of TURNING POINTs service area(s), one might assume that a plethora of services would be available to alcohol and/or other drug abuse individuals. While there are some very good fee-for-service and for-profit services available, social determinants of health—poverty, unequal access to health care, lack of education, stigma, and racism—are linked to the health disparities of many individuals. The disparity between the need for and access to these treatment services among our minority communities is significant. This indicates that the socioeconomic reality is at an increased risk due to a number of complex biological, social, and economic factors.
To address these disparities, TURNING POINTs framework represents a set of innovative, evidence-based interventions across the continuum of community care. Our organization’s services have a measurable impact on the communities we serve by increasing availability, accessibility, and change the social norms and conditions that contribute to alcohol and drug use.
Our goal as an organization is to reduce relapse occurrences, as well as, help address and decrease some of the health disparities associated with substance abuse (e.g., HIV/AIDS, viral Hepatitis transmission, and STDs).
Our board of directors and staff at TURNING POINT
are fully committed to successfully reaching out to and serving the
communities of Los Angeles in order to help them meet their need for
health, social, and recreational services, as well as,
learning and growing in our own cultural competence as an organization.
TURNING POINT is the most inclusive and responsive center
that’s dedicated to helping all individuals improve and maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle and maximize their quality of life.
